This unusual album contained 12 mono songs from the fifties that were now 'overdubbed' by producers Tony Brown and David Briggs. They kept Elvis' original vocal and updated the background sound using some members of his original band; (Scotty Moore on guitar and D.J. Fontana on drums with the original backing group 'The Jordanaires'.

The remaining 4 songs were previously released on the soundtrack to the 1981 movie: "This Is Elvis".

NOTE:

When stocks of the british international albums began to diminish, or to possibly offload surplus German stocks, copies of a German LP also titled, "I Was The One" (PL 84678), had a sticker applied to the rear of the sleeve changing it to the UK catalogue as (RCA LP 3105).
The artwork from the rear of the British album was retained, and now used on the German front cover. However, somebody either didn't do their homework, or simply didn't care, as this sleeve in reality, was part of a different record entirely, and not a copy of the UK album at all. (Shades of "Golden Records Vol. 2" - "50,000,000 Elvis Fans Can't Be Wrong", anyone?)
Here's the real kicker though! The record contained inside was not the proper German (PL 84678) black label version, but a UK repressing of (RCALP 3105) on the New Black label.
Note: I haven't seen this repressing contained in the original UK album, so any information would be most welcome!

NOTE: EUROPEAN PRESSINGS:
RCA in the United States had decided it was time to centralise the manufacture of their product in Western Europe, this would be solely for the purpose of European distribution to countries like Belgium, West Germany, Italy, Holland, France and the UK. They had already shut down their operations in the UK with the closure of their Washington plant. Since then EMI had pressed most of their UK output. RCA chose to use a plant based in West Germany, a decision which didn't go down well in Britain.
This release was the first German Elvis album to be released in the UK, so effectively from this point on, new Elvis' RCA albums available in Britain were no longer manufactured in the UK.
In cases where the light green International (INTS) UK label stock ran low in supply numbers, they were boosted by adding the new German black or blue international albums. The covers were issued with INTS stickers applied to cover the european catalogue numbers. This caused a lot of problems for dealers and collectors alike.
