During January/February 1969, Elvis held a mammoth recording session in Memphis for the first time since his early days at Sun. The timing for the making of this acclaimed album was spot on as it followed on from his successful NBC TV comeback show, which was aired in the U.S. in December. This album shows Elvis at his best, surrounded by great musicians and excellent material. A farcry from the mundane soundtracks that he had been accustomed to churning out for the last few years. This was the first album of new material issued on RCA's large orange label.
